2003 Other Rover Models heating

Service engine light came on
following day heating system not working properly
temp set at 24c
60km less vent blows cold air
80km more blow hot air
should I replace coolant or could it be something else

Have the car scanned for fault codes. Replace thermostat and flush cooling system !
