Key will not turn back completely and driver's side door lock is stuck

Today our car started acting up. I parked it in the driveway and went to turn it off and the key would not turn back all the way to allow me to remove it from the car. I did some looking online and found that there is a hole under the key mechanism that I was able to stick a pen in and allow the key to release and turn all the way back to remove it. That's fine, but what exactly is the problem here or what part would I need to replace to fix this?

I also noticed sine this has happened that the keyless entry no longer locks the doors. It makes the sound of them locking but they do not move on the doors themselves, in fact, the one on the driver's door will not move at all even by trying to push it forward or backward by hand. It appears to be stuck. Would this have something to do with the key not turning back? Is it something with the shifter? Any ideas at all would be appreciated.

Go buy a new key cylinder. Use a paperclip to push in whole then just pull the cylinder out. Take the news cylinder push it in turn it back and forth and it will lock in. We can start here.
