My cherokee makes a thunking noise. The faster you go the faster the noise. It happens in 2 or 4 wheel drive and when I coast. Its hard to diagnose by myself. The front drive shaft does have play in the u-joint. I'm just not sure what it is. Thank you

Hello,

If the front shaft U-Joint has play in it the most likely that is the cause of your thunking. To confirm all you need to do is remove the front shaft and test drive. If thunking is gone replace U-Joints. Yes, replace both joints cause I have found that if you only replace the bad one the other will go bad with a month or so.
