Hi,

The front brakes on my 1998 Jeep Cherokee keep overheating every so often. The front brake pads were replaced about a month ago. One ten mile trip might be fine but another might leave the discs burned blue. When driving I can sometimes hear the brakes squeak a little even when I am not braking.

I had the master brake cylinder replaced yesterday but the problem persists. Both sides heat up so it could hardly be a caliper fault.

Could it be the servo or the proportioning valve causing the problem. The brake pads I had put in were not OEM but they should not be causing a problem, got them from a reputable motor factor.

The old girl is a 2.5 turbo diesel and she's been a good servant. I'd like to keep her rolling for another while. I'm writing to you from Ireland, found you guys on google. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Will Buckley.

First thing I would do was jack up the front end, spin the tires and see if they are binding, then put on the brakes and release are they still binding?

Try putting on the brakes then open up the bleeder valve, does tire turn better now or same thing?

If its easier to turn then the brake line is restricted if not
could be a bad brake caliper

I just jacked up the back axel and it seems like the back brakes are dragging too!
It's got to be something between the brake pedal and the proportioning valve.
The servo or the proportioning valve could be causing the problem.

Proportioning valve controls rear wheels only.

I think the problem lies in the master cylinder since all 4 are acting up could be blocked and need overhaul/replace.

Try this. Have someone put on the brakes and the you crack open the bleeder valve, shut it have them release their foot, then crack it again. Does wheel turn? Same old sticking?
