Alrighty, I've seen many problems relating to mine on here, so here it is. My 1995 Jeep Cherokee Sport's clutch went out so to speak. Problems before that happened include the following. Stopped a stop sign, clutch is engaged and in first gear, but the car takes off when clutch is engaged. Problem went away after that instance. Clutch was making grinding/squeak when pressure was applied and released, then as I stopped in a parking lot my Jeep was making some crazy noises, then the clutch began to go out. I've heard that this problem is most likely the Slave cylinder, and I am not so sure it is. For starters I have full fluid in the slave cylinder, but my car is leaking some lighter colored liquid and I am not sure from where. The master cylinder seems to retain its fluid but I haven't checked recently to see if the fluid is still in. Even though I have high miles, my engine and transmission run strong. My tranny does not slip gears, and my engine is fine. I am probably stupid for attempting to diagnose this problem myself hence the reason I came here, I know nothing about Vehicle repair. If you need to ask a specific question I will answer to the best of my ability. Please help me.

Hi there,

You may a one or two separate issues here, firstly check that the clutch fluid is ok if low you have a leak, be it the master or slave Cly, if the fluid is ok, the master Cly may be by passing fluid internally this can cause the creep off with the clutch pressed in, as for the noise, this sounds as if the clutch thrust bearing is failing, this will require the removal of the transmission to rectify.
