1994 Jeep Cherokee Oil Sending Unit

Would a faulty oil pressure sending unit have anything to do with my vehicle conking out on me while driving? The pressure guage drops and I have no ability to accelerate and eventually the car dies.

The oil pressure sending unit will cause a code and if the computer is wired to an oil pressure switch it may shut the motor down, however this sounds more like the sensor is working fine and you are loosing oil pressure when the motor gets hot.
