Engine started making a slaping sound. It gets louder at higher RPM?

With 200K on the engine I would be suspicious of bearings. I would recommend, if you have an oil light, removing the oil pressure sending unit and screwing an oil pressure gauge in its place. Checking actual hot oil pressure at idle. This will give us a clue as to what's going on. If you have a dash oil "gauge", what does it read at hot idle? Please advise.

Not trying to appear facetious, but I'm not sure what a slapping sound is. If it is coming from the top of the engine, I would guess it is valve rocker slop caused by worn hydraulic lifters. Even though you say the engine runs strong, which is good, at 200K that would be my next culprit. Sounds like the motor has been well maintained, but lifters just plain wear out.
