1989 Jeep Cherokee belt

My belt wont stop squealing, we replaced the water pump, nothing happened, we put a new $50 belt on and its still making so much noise. It has to be the belt because when we put water or sometihing on the belt it stops making noise for a minute but then starts again. What should I do next?

Is the belt tight enough? Also, make sure the pulleys are not glazed. If they are, you will need to try to clean them with a strong cleaner (degreaser) to see if that helps. If you replace the belt, chances are it needs to be a little tighter and double check the routing to make sure it is correctly installed.
