Is the starter located where it can be damaged from slow oil leak of oil pan/valve gaskets

I have the car listed above Wolfsburg with a slow oil pan/valve gasket leak (getting my oil changed regularly has been keeping my oil levels at appropriate levels). The last couple of days, I experienced rough start/clicking when starting the ignition. My battery is about two years old, so I was thinking alternator or starter. Had the battery tested and it had a 10.55 volt reading. To make a long story short, both the starter and alternator passed diagnostics and the battery result was "bad." The battery was replaced through the warranty I purchased. My question is, is the starter in my car in a location where it could soak up oil from the kind of leak that I have? Would it still pass the diagnostic if it malfunctioned as a result of exposure to oil? And if the starter did malfunction as a result of being exposed to an oil leak could that make a battery read as "bad" in a diagnostic test? Just want to be prepared if the new battery I have begins to fail.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros. Com.

The starter bolts to the transmission bell housing, but the starter itself sits along side of the engine at aproximately oil pan height. I attached a picture of its location for you to see.

As far as your questions, yes it is in a location where it can get oil on it. However, I doubt that is going to cause the problem you experienced. Honestly, it sounds like a bad battery. I cannot begin to tell you how many starters are saturated with oil and never have a problem. If it checked good and the alternator checked good, they should be fine. Also, the clicking you described is a typical sound heard when the battery is weak.

Feel free to ask any other questions you may have.

Take care,
Joe

Thank you so much Joe for your helpful information! I used to run all my auto repair questions past my brother, who owned his own shop, but he passed away a few years back. I feel more confident now about getting the battery replaced. Thanks again.
