Hi,

I would be happy to help. In the heading, you mentioned it was an intermittent issue but the post leads me to believe they don't work at all. Is that correct?

Can you explain what happens when you turn them on? Does any light turn on or indicator in the vehicle?

As far as the fuse you checked, in addition to checking the fuse itself, did you confirm there is power at the fuse?

Take a look at this link and check for power:

Also, let me know exactly what is happening.

Take care,
Joe

Sometimes they work sometimes they don't. Sometimes if they don't work if I will whack the steering wheel it will start working but other times it wont. When it doesn't work I've got no indicator lights on dash. I tried replacing the flasher relay worked for a little bit but went back to it. I'm thinking it's a switch. Am I right to assume it?

Hi,

If it starts working when you hit the steering column, it sounds like the switch is bad or there is a loose connection. Since they do work at times, the fuse isn't the issue.

I attached a pic below and highlighted the connectors to check. Just make sure they are tight and not damaged. You will likely need to remove the bottom of the steering column shroud.

Let me know what you find. Also, replacement of the switch isn't a 10 minute job, and will require some special tooling. If we find there are no wiring issues, let me know if it will be something you are comfortable doing.

Take care,
Joe

Thank you. I have a tool I made for pulling the wheel off I just don't know how to get the airbag off and I don't want to accidentally set it off.

Also when I press to turn on the hazards they don't turn on. Is that switch also included in the multi switch?

Hi,

Not a problem. Have a safe trip. As far as the hazards, yes it is part of the same switch, so chances are it needs replaced.

When you get back, let me know what you find with the wiring. If it looks good, I think replacing the switch will need done. Also, I will help with the steering wheel removal (airbag).

Again, have a safe trip and I'll watch for your reply when you return.

Take care,
Joe

Hi,

Lets try to work through this. There is a fuse specific for the flashers (Haz). If it is blown, the brake lights won't work either. Confirm they work.

Next, if the brake lights work and the fuse is good, I need you to check for 12v power at the orange wire at the switch. It should have 12v at all times.

If there is no power to the flasher switch but the brake lights work, there is a splice in the orange wire which should be near the brake light switch under the dash. That splice may be bad and only allowing power to the brake light switch.

Take a look at the pic I attached. Confirm the fuse is good as well as make sure it has power to it even if the fuse looks good. I circled the fuse, the wire at the haz switch, and the splice between the haz and brake light switch. We need to determine where power is lost.

If the switch is still the original one, it may have failed. We will know that when we determine if there is power to it.

As far as the flasher you replaced, it also controls the haz flash, so we know that is good.

Let me know what you find Also, here is a link that explains checking for power at the fuse. I don't know if you need it, but I thought I would add it.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care and welcome back.

If the brake lights are working, chances are the fuse is fine.

I attached two pics below. The first shows what items are powered by that fuse and the second shows location. It is under the dash behind the instrument panel.

Let me know what you find.

Hi,

No, that isn't the fuse box. It should be under the dash. It will have several fuses in it. If you look at the second pics I attached in the prior post, that is what it will look like.

Hi,

Interestingly, it could be in either of the two places. Sorry about that. Have you been able to check for power? Interestingly, if it is a CB, it would make sense that it would work and then not. They automatically reset after a predetermined time period.

Let me know.
