I have the car listed above which was my dad's, then used by my sister then me. Whenever I stop at a traffic light with only my leg on the brake pedal and the car in "D" the dashboard begins to shake, and I have noticed that whenever I do not engage my Emergency Brake or Parking brake, I almost always get a "check engine light" however When I engage my Emergency/parking brake the Check engine light goes away.

Hello,
The dash shaking and check engine light are most likely due to a misfire.

So the engine can run rough (misfire) like this due to a number of reasons. It could be for a vacuum leak, worn spark plugs, dirty throttle body etc.

Have you got a chance to scan the vehicle to retrieve the codes for the check engine light?
This can help with the diagnostics.
If the check engine light is on you can take it to your local auto parts store and they can scan the provide you with the code(s).

Do you experience any hesitating on acceleration? Does it run smooth other time besides at idle?

Please let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
