Continuation of a prior question. Other than a brake pedal switch, what does the cruise control and brake lights have in common that would make both not work?

Answering my own question. Further investigating (with a multi-meter)showed BOTH stop light bulbs were open(filiments appeared to be ok). Replaced both bulbs. Stop lights function AND cruise control returned to normal operation. Apparently, the brake light curcuit is tied into the cruise.
