Engine Cooling problem
1994 Honda Passport 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Passport overheated. I replaced the fan clutch, thermostat and radiator. On idle the cars temps reaches half way up on gage but does not go past that point even if I bring the rpm’s up. Upper radiator hose gets hot and has a “bubbling" noise coming from it but the bottom hose stays cold. There is also some air that is being pushed back into the overflow. If I attempt to drive it the temp shoots up hot within a half mile? Is it possible that I have some kind of air bubble in the cooling system or do have something more serious going on?

Hi rcberli01,

There are a few possibilities for the problem.

1. Air trapped in system. Bleeding has to be done burp the air out of the system.

2. Thermostat is stuck closed. Recheck the thermostat installation.

3. Bad water pump. Coolant is not circulating in system.
