I have a 99 Honda Odyssey that acts like it's dropping into Neutral while I'm driving. Every gear acts like Neutral. When I stop and turn it off and back on it goes into gear and drives fine for a little bit, then acts like its back in Neutral (The gear shift level is still in drive.I even try shifting into other gears)

The ignition switch went out and I had it replaced because it was on the recall list.

I also had AAmco rebuild the Transmission ($3200.00) and it seemed to work for about a year. As soon as the AAmco warranty ran out it is doing it again. I have only driven it 10,000 miles since AAmco rebuilt the Transmission.

I think it's a little strange that the rebuilt Transmission is acting the same was as the old transmission. Any Ideas?

Hi Dave,

If shifting is good in all speeds, it should be a fault with the control system as restarting solves the problem.

Get a free scan done at Autozoneand let me know the EXACT trouble code if any found.

I'm having this exact same problem with a 2003 Honda Odyssey with 115K miles. While driving along, the van will intermittently act like it's in neutral. If I give it gas the RPMS will race up, but the van doesn't accelerate. If I let off the gas entirely and let the RPMS fall, the transmission will re-engage. I'm going to take my van to Autozone and get it checked for codes and I'll post them here as well.

Hi keymaster. Did you get the problem fixed? What was the issue. This just happened to me today on my 99 honda odyssey with 95K miles. The original transmission was replaced by Honda under warranty recall. Is this an expensive fix?
