Honda, CRX, 1988, 148,695 mi, V4. Ever since winter started my car was having trouble starting: It would turn over but you had to hold it for at least 30 seconds to get it started. Sometimes if you let go of the soon it would just shut off. Then a couple days later it wouldn't even turn over at all. Makes sort of a faint buzzing sound when you try to start it. Checked the battery and terminals everything checks out. Please can you help me?

Load test the battery to check its actual condition. If it cannot maintain 9.6volts in 10secs while loaded get rid of it.

Double check all connections involved from the batt to the starter

Hey rxaxixn
Before you try to start your car, turn on your lights. Try to start it and if your lights dim, that means the starter soleniod is ok, but the starter may still be the problem. If they dont, either there is no power getting to your starter or the soleniod is shot and it needs to be replaced.
Hope I helped.

I have what may be a similar problem with my 86 crx. When I am starting it in high moisture type weather I have to crank on it for like 30 seconds til it starts. I assume thats because of a bad seal that lets the moisture in. Not sure where.
