For two weeks my car has been stalling while I am driving. I still have all power to the car and it will crank but will not start. If I sit for 15 minutes it will start back up. The repair shop cannot diagnose the problem because it does not stall while they have it. My check engine light came on a few days ago and their diagnostic machine said catalytic converter. The shop said they doubted that was causing the problem and they replaced the distributor cap, rotor, as well as the ignition coil. The car stalled before I got it home. Help.

It does sound like the catalytic convertor is restricted, I would go get a second opinion, and even a third. You can always get the engine code scanned for free at autozone. Also do not go to a dealer, they will go everywhere but the problem at hand, and charge you an arm and a leg. I would see if you can mimick the problem in your back yard and get it not to start, at that time, you should check the fuel pressure and spark/ignition. This may determine something different. But it will also tell you which direction to go in.

I want to add, if a diagnostic machine says catalytic converter, then its 99.9 percent catalytic converter. Dont be afraid to go somewhere else for another opinion, you usually arent charged, for them to tell you what you need done. Also if you remember the code from the computer scan, let me know what it is.
