I had the front axle replaced on my 95 CRV. About a week later the transmission went out. I took to the tranmission shop and they had to rebuild and replace the axle. They said the C clip had come off causing the axle to slip back and forth and strip the splines and this caused the transmission to fail $2400 repair. I went back to my regular mechanic with this and of course was told no way. They said the axle back to NAPA who said the axle was not defective. My question is if this was not installed correctly and did come off could this have caused the transmission to fail.
Thanks

Hi caesard3,

If the CV shafts had not been properly installed, you would have noticed abnormal noises while driving.

When the joints came off, normally it would not strip the splines that easily.

I suspect the trans shop is not telling you the truth. Probably replacing the clip and plugging the shaft back in would solve the problem.
