I have a question for my 2001 Honda Civic. It has 114000km on it. It is usual to hear rumbling noise from the axle (I think) when the steering wheel is completely turned to either side. I believe if one does enough of this, the axle will be worn out rather quickly.

Lately, I have noticed this same noise ( a bit louder) manifesting when I make a regular normal turn and at the same time, moving on a somewhat inclined surface- to a second floor parking lot, up a wide bump, up hill, etc. I think it takes place after the car has been operating for over an hour or so on a hot summer day.

Do you know what the problem is?

I would have your CV boots inspected. If they tear, the grease is allowed to get out, and then the joint runs dry. If no damage has been done, you can get the boots replaced with new grease. If the joints have already gotten damaged, then the entire CV joint will need to be replaced.
Sounds rather odd on a 2001 car, but thats what it sounds like.
