My honda civic keeps losing power and dying. My question is what is going on? I am thinking it is the carburetor or the fuel pump by the gas tank but am not sure. The car takes like 5 mins to start up then when I take off it will die every 500 yards or so. It likes to die when going up a hill and sometimes when I am on flat road. Please help

Does it sputter. Try first replacing the fuel filter, then I would suggest doing a fuel pressure test to see if your pump is good. Good luck

It likes to back fire some times. Then it will shift down then die.

A couple of good points to check are the plug wires which can be kind of finicky. Then I would also look at the timing of the vehicle.
