Noises problem
2006 Honda Civic Automatic 60,050 miles

I need another opinion on the problem of my car. My car had just had its 60th maintenance check with the same mechanics. However after drive with the unit we heard noises like knocking sound isomehwere in front while the engine is running even at an idle mode. Mechanics have done the following before they discovered something: checked and adjusted the valve clearance, replaced the drive belt with a shorter belt, the rod oil clearance were in its standard measurements. However they saw the rocker arm shaft to be bent. I was asking the mechanics the possible causes of a bent shaft but they could not give me any reason. This unit had a history of having noises heard in front as early as 3 months after I bought it(brand new), suspension was changed. Can you please give me an expert opinion on all of these without any bias for the name of the unit?

Hi Susan.
Wow what a well thought out question.I guess first I would need to know. When they replaced the suspension parts, did the noise you were referring to go away at that time? Or is the noise the same as you have always complained about?

As far as the rocker shaft being bent, no mechanic can give you a definitive logical of why that paticular shaft bent. But I will tell you the answer is very obvious to me. The shaft is of poor quality, it slipped through the inspectors.

This shaft is very lightweight in design. It could have been torqued wrong. As in all bolts not tightened to the same foot pounds.

Either way it is a design flaw and especially being a honda this should have never happened. Is there a danger of other defects? Yes this could be a flaw in the whole engine. Now the honda techs will never agree with this, lol so don, t even try to explain it.

Ihope this helps you ty for writeing billymac
