When honda or myself hook a scanner up. We both receive, LINK ERROR. Where does the power come from for the pcm?Is it through the immobilizer, fuse box a relay, what? Its just very odd to me that a honda certified mechanic cant diagnose this problem. Its been down for two months now. If you cant get into the pcm, how can you program a new pcm?

Hello,

When the scanner wont communicate it means the connector is dirty or you need to replace the ALDL fuse. Here is the ALDL connector wiring diagram which shows the fuse. Check fuse #9 which is a ten amp.

Check out the diagrams (Below)

Please let us know what you find.

Cheers

I'm having a similar problem with my obd2 scanner. I have an 02 civic ex coupe. My scanner worked fine the first time. O2 sensors needed replaced. Then I floated a valve so got everything all buttoned up, all connections plugged back in but car idles fine but loses power and can't go over 50mph. Tried my scanner and reads error. I've read through these forums and all fuses are good. I'm at a loss at this point in time

DBARNES3,

Would you please use this link and ask this as a new question. Please include the info on the car and what make/model the scan tool is. Thank you.

I don't see it showing up yet however the first thing I would try is a different scan tool. Some can be obstinate at times. If both refuse to connect then I would start looking for problems at the ALDL connector like lost power or ground. The wiring diagram to the connector is the same. However if the tool powers up it should be working. Then it may just be the tool or a protocol issue.

Have you had any luck with the testing or busy? If busy, no problem.

Little of both lol. I decided to check all fuses and did find a bad one and swapped it out. My scanner still powered up like normal and I did test my aldl port and everything was good but scanner still read error. Can't figure out why it worked once but not now.

If you can hunt up a different tester it may help determine if it's the port or the tool at least. I just retired one of my older tools because the main board has a problem and it would cost as much to repair it as replace it.
