The timing belt was changed a couple of months ago according to the menual requirement. Then my cousin has been driving the car and she had an overall tuneup done by Canadian Tire last later and have the surpentine belt changed. Ever since there has been a really annoying chirping sound coming from some where near the engine on the driver's side. The chirping sound starts shortly, if not immediately, when the car is turned on and then it continues till the engine is turned off. My cousin took it back to Canadian Tire. They did some adjustment but it did not help at all and they told her that they could not do anything about it but it does not matter. The annoying chirping sound is there all the time. It is kind of embarrassing to drive a car around that makes continuous chirping noise and I am more worried about the possible consequence. Can you tell me why that chirping sound is there and what exactly I should do before I send it to another garage? Thank you very much for your help in advance.

The tension in the belt that CT installed (the tensioner) is probably not the best. That's my only guess.

Why'd you replace the timing belt at 40000 miles? I think Honda doesn't recommend that until 65000.

I kind of learned my lesson the hard way - every time I bring my Civ to a local repair shop - even though they're ASE - it seems like something else goes wrong in a few months.

Since then I just bring it to the dealer. Sure, it's about 10-15% more money, but they know my car the best, and most times, I can talk them into giving me a 10% discount.
