I have a Honda Civic 1997 Lxi with75,213 kms mileage. I brought the car to a Honda Service center bec. The check engine light on the dash board continues to light up when I'm driving. Also, the engine runs rough and shakes every one's in a while.

Per Honda, the problem was with the EACV. However, after replacing that part, the engine light continues to light up and engine is still rough. They recommended that we replace the engine computer. But I requested to get a 2nd opinion.

The repair shop said that a diode in the computer engine ot burned and needs to be replaced.

What do your recommend? Should I have the diode replaced or shld I buy a new engine computer.
What is a engine computer diode?

I don't have that much funds for car repair, but if I'm going to spend for repairs I want the best and permanent solutionto my car prblems.

Thank much!

Hi cnon,

For this model the engine computer usually gets fried when the EACV ( IAC ) is faulty. You can get the PCM rebuilt and it should be more economical and works as well as a new unit.
