I just had a used engine with 80,000 miles on the used engine. What are some of the reasons it would leak oil?

Worn out seals, faulty oil drain plug gasket or oil filter.

If the PCV system is malfunctioning your seals/gaskets have a higher chance of leaking. So ensure the pcv system is working.
