I can smell antifreeze in the car. I took the heater core out and had it tested but it doesn't leak. What else could be causing the smell?

Before removing the heater core, I checked all of the hoses for leaks. The wire that controls the heater control valve was disconnected. Could this cause the problem? What am I missing here?

The wire being disconnected is not the problem. The only coolant related part in your passenger compartment is your heater core. So if there is coolant on your carpet, it's the core.

Yes, but the heater core was tested and is not leaking. There's not antifreeze on the carpet but the odor is there when driving. Could it be leaking somehow through the firewall from the engine compartment?
