Hi! I have a 99 Honda accord with 66K miles on it. For sometime now, I have had a problem with the throttle. When I start the car for the first time, I have to push the throttle more than half way for the car to get moving. I ignored it since it was only when I first started the car and I just thought of it as a nuisance.

But now in stop and go traffic I feel the same thing though not quite as much. It almost feels like my car is stalling a bit. Maybe I am being a little paranoid as well :-).

Is this throttle problem serious?

Thanks!

Have you had a tune-up and that would include a timing check?

No I have not. I did a 60K servicing last year but havent done a 90K servicing. I didnt think I needed to do a tuneup till over 100K mile?

Am I wrong?

Well once you start experiencing problems I would throw the book out the window. You now have something to take care of and a loss of power could be timing change, and other things. Have you got any check engine light activity? I don't suspect compression as an issue but would strongly suggest looking at everything that you can for tuneup. That is exactly where any mechanic is going to point you. What do the plugs look like. They tell lots of secrets just by looking at the tips once you pull one out. Ideally, a gray to brown is okay, but a black could indicate that you are using too much fuel. Have a look at the plugs, I am not suggesting that you HAVE to replace them but look at them. Check the gap.
