I have a 2000 honda accord ex 2.3l with 84,500k. Check engine light keeps coming on. I had a diagnostic on it and it came up as an emissions leak. The light was reset but it came back on again as soon as I started driving it in the morning. I'm also having a fluttering, purring or light knocking coming from the paseenger side in the lower engine area by the transmission when I lightly accelerate. No noise when idle. I heard the noise on a test drive. Second test drive, no noise. 100 miles later, I hear it again and it won't stop. My mechanic checked for exhaust leaks so that isnt the problem. The car is extremely quiet in the cold while idle

Have you considered that the exhaust could have a leak? Look at the gasket where the exhaust pipe joins the exhaust maniforld as a starting point.

When you say emissions leak, I have to assume you mean an evap leak. If so check all the hoses back by the evap cannister to see if any have come loose or have a crack.

Often what you are experiencing is the result of a loosening heat shield on the car. Take some time to crawl under the car and see if any of the shield are loose.
