89 Accord LXI

Honda accord lxi, auto tranny, EFI, 135Kmi. When I'am driving the check egine lite comes on, however, there is no loss of power. Theres this pop corn sound that seems to be coming from the throttle body area also the gas milage seems to be a little lower and when I'm coasting down hill the RPMS go up and down. The strange thing is that the engine sounds normal when the car is stationary and I step on the gass.
Got any suggestions?

Would you say the engine surges at idle?

If you check there is a method to read the code on the PGM-F1. Something to do with counting the flashes of the lights on the module which located under the seat? Hit the internet for a PGM-F1 Honda code, etc or some such search. You will find a site that will guide you to what to jumper to pull the code. Then you will have a direction to face.
