My Honda was 1/2 qt low on transmission fluid and since have found no leaks and doesn't check low; does a transmission use fluid regularly?

Also, I fell my transmission drags into gear a bit and when checking found a recall on the throttle for my model. Could throttle recall be problem for drag?

Tnx.

Hi nellyb123,

Your model should be equipped with a throttle pressure cable and if all the gears are late in up shifting, most probably the cable is adjusted too short.

If the shifting is erratic and sometimes seems good, the throttle position sensor can cause it to shift erratically.

Another possible cause would be the speed sensor. Thsi would happen if the speedometer is not functioning or functioning incorrectly.

Do you have the Check Engine Light showing or D4 light blinking while driving?

Yes, my 'check engine' light has been red. Thanks so much; I'll have the dealer check out the throttle cable as I think there was a recall on this.

Yours being a 96 model should be OBD II and code retrieval can be done with a scanner.

Most parts stores provides the service either free or for a nominal fee. Get them to check it for you and let me know the exact trouble code.

Thanks so much for all the info and being so helpful; this was probably in my manual and so excuse me for being so ignorant. I will have the code checked out and get back with you.

I seldom come across people who knows what are in the manual so you do not need to feel bad about it.

Let me know what you find and we can try to figure it out for you.

Asked my brother and he said its not my engine light thats on, its the red maintenance light. So now Im back to just my transmission problem. It was 1/2 qt low about three weeks ago after not checking for I don't know how many years (terrible). Now since adding and checking every day for three weeks the transmission fluid level has remained okay. Still feel though the shifting is sluggish and wonder about the trottle recall. Do you suggest that I just have my Honda dealer check out? Im at 99,000 mi and want to keep and get 100 T more miles so will start really taking care of her. Tnx so much, Sharon

Hi Sharon,

The maintenance service reminder can be reset to green by inserting the ignition key into the slot as shown in diagram.

If you feel the trans is not shifting correctly, it would be advisable to get it checked. Call the honda dealership and check if you can get the throttle replaced under the recall.
