I’ve read through all the posts related to the vehicle speed sensor. I just need to narrow down the problem before I go buy the part.

A few weeks ago the speedometer started jumping around, from 0 to 60 even if I was driving 45 or if I was at a complete stop. At a complete stop, sometimes the car would jerk around slightly.

Eventually the speedometer stopped working entirely, along with the odometer and the check engine light started coming on. But, the car still drove well.

Then I went to start the car up one day and the battery was dead. I got the car jumped, it started up, but kept stalling out. So we jumped the car, and I kept the rpm’s up a little, by putting my foot on the gas. I was able the drive the car home by not allowing the cars rpm’s to fall to zero. When I got home, I took my foot off the gas and the car stalled immediately, plus the battery never recharged during the drive home.

Is this all caused by that vehicle speed sensor?

Hi Anon-User,

The alternator not charging and the VSS are 2 completely different thing.

You need to check if the battery is bad or it is the alternator that is not charging.

The VSS has to be replaced to rectify the problem.
