When I drive the car and it shifts into second gear, it jumps. I hear squeaking sounds from underneath the car every once in a while. What can this be. Do I really need transmission work.

Should change the transmission fluid.

Hi msorbino,

Thank you for the donation.

Harsh upshifts can be due to :
1 Faulty 2nd clutch in transmission, rebuliding is required.
2. Iproperly adjusted trans throttle cable. Readjustment should solve it.
3. Bad engine mounts. Replacement of the engine mount is necessary.

If the fluid condition is poor, replacing it helps but that would depend on what is causing the problem.

Squeaking noise can be due to many factors :
1. Worn bushes
2. Worn ball joints or linkages.
3. Loose or out of position body parts or engine components.

You would need to trace the source of the noise.
