1989 Honda Accord 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My son and his friends are trying change the alternator, they have it completely loose they thought they could roll it out like on the fx model
question do they have to drop the drive tran or axle to get it out? Any other advise would be great

I am going to get the Chilton manual and try to figure it out. Any experienced advise would be great. Do I need to replace seals? What if the CV something was jsut replaced 4 months ago?

Thanks again for your help
