Hi,

Looks like I have a problem with the blend door on this car. It has a blend door that will not move from full heat. Blasts full heat and it is not controllable with the single climate control knob.I removed the actuator and tested it and it works fine. However, when I try to turn the blend door spindle that the actuator attaches to, it will not move. (Jammed?)I got access to the passenger side of the HVAC box (removed glove box) and the other end of the blend door spindle, and could not move it from there either. I looked all over the net and YouTube to see if anyone had the same problem. Could only seem to find dual door system problem solving. Is there a way to repair this without pulling the whole dash?I saw that some people had cut the HVAC case to get access to the blend doors. Is this possible with my car?If it is, could you give me some guidance please. Regards, John Russell (74 year young Rocker now in a rocker ;) in the U.S.A.

Sounds like you are correct that the door is seized. However, I would not cut the housing but instead remove the blower motor and see if you can knock the door open. Hopefully once it is free you will not have it seize again.

I attached a cut away view of where the blend door is in relation to the blower motor. As you can see it is just to the side of it and the blend door is the first door that the air reaches so it should be reachable with a socket extension if not your hand.

Let us know what happens with this but if it doesn't work then the housing would need to come out if you are not going to cut it which I would not. Thanks

Thank you for your response to my question. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get to work on my Jeep yet. I have been dealing with adverse effects from my second Moderna shot. Hopefully I shall be able to get back to normal in a few days. Your instructions on removing the blower and possibly getting to the blend door, has me a little baffled. With full heat on at all times; does that mean the blend doors are stuck all the way down? I would of thought the opposite. Guess I can't picture what is going on inside the HVAC box. Thanks.

Totally understand.

Give this attachment a look. Number 3 is the blend door and number 2 is the heater core. The blend door will move up during full cold and down during full hot. Then it will be somewhere in between based on the temp setting that is not full hot or cold.

This is a standard illustration but your vehicle is not much different.

Thank you for the diagram of the HVAC box. I now understand the workings of the doors etc. However; I assume the blower would be to the right and blowing air in somewhere, is that right?
If correct; how can I get to the stuck blend door #3. Won't the A/C evaporator be in the way? Sorry, I'm a bit confused here.

This is just an illustration but yes. In most cases the evaporator is in the way but I can't remember if this on of the vehicles that has a bypass opening under it that would give you visibility to the blend door. If we don't have access then I don't see any other way to access that but to remove the box so I would attempt it prior to pull the HVAC box out.

Finally had chance to get under the dash today. Pulled the actuator and got some vice grips on the end fitting that connects to the blend door and rocked it back and forth and finally I got the blend door to move back and forth correctly. Put everything back together. Took the car for a run and tested the heat and A/C. All seems to be working okay.
Thank you so much for your help. Once I knew how things worked I could figure which way the blend door was stuck.
