I brought my car into a Subaru dealer yesterday for two recalls; the passenger airbag and a brake line issue. (That I never got a card or letter about from Subaru). I got a loaner car and my car was supposed to be ready by the end of the day and it wasn't. Received a call this morning early from service guy stating my head gasket is leaking and should be replaced and they would do the timing chain at the same time. The call took me off guard and the price for this is $2,900.00 I feel like I'm being had by the dealer or am I?

Hello,

That is a pricey fix, so if you want a second opinion, how about you check it yourself. I have included a couple of links for you to go to down below.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/head-gasket-blown-test
https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-engine-compression

Please go through these guides and get to us us with what you find out please. And if, by chance the tests come back positive for a leaking head gasket, I have included the parts cost and labor times for a head gasket replacement for your vehicle. The only variable would be how much your shop would charge for labor rate.

Thanks,
Alex
