When the engine is cold I have to pump the gas to get started and then keep the RPM's up until it gets warmed up, so that it wont die after that it is fine.

How long since a tune-up?
Are there any applicable trouble codes?
Use a gauge and check proper fuel pressure, key on engine off. Hopefully there is a Schrader valve for the fuel pressure gauge.
Check and clean throttle-body and idle air system. Generally, you don't touch the gas pedal to start it. Check the MAF (mas air flow) sensor.

If I can suggest, I would check for vacuum leaks and remove the IAC motor to check it for gunk, it could be dirty which would cause this problem, here are some guides to help you.

and

Please let me know what you find
