First look inside the wheel, is there any sign of oil on the tires? Do you hear a growling noise from the rear when driving?

Jack the car up freeing the "offending" wheel. Spin the wheel and listen for noise. Grab the wheel at the top with one hand and the bottom with the other. Shake wheel in and out, there should be little to no movement, if your getting excessive play, your wheel bearing is out. If your just getting noise while spinning your tire, its on its way out.
