The truck has been sitting for almost 4 years. When we parked it last it ran but the transmission was going out. We tried to start it about 2 months ago and it would turn over but not start. We tried to jump the battery off but never could get it started. We just went and got a new battery and tried to start it and now there is nothing, the lights come on and there is power but when you turn the key it makes no sound. I have looked around for bad wires but nothing. What should I check?

Hello, your sure the battery has a full charge and the battery connections are clean and tight on both ends? Have you tried cranking in neutral?

Yes, we just bought the battery. I can check the voltage again to make sure they didnt give us a bad battery, but we hooked the new battery up with jumper cables and tried it that way too so I dont think the battery is bad. And yes we put it in netural and tried to start but nothing.

The purple wire going to the starter solenoid should be hot with the key in the crank position.

You use a testlite or voltmeter on the wiring connector.
