I have a 1995 sunfire 5 speed standard. It has just over 260,000 kms. It has been laid up for about a year. My hub took it for a drive and at first white smoke came from the exhaust and you could smell like it was flooding itself. Then once he started driving it, the exhaust and muffler turned bright orange and then blue flames came from the exhaust. He said that the car started to lose power. What is on the go?

Catalytic converter is NOT the problem. Your sunbird is experiencing a lean mixture condition. I am going to assume that your check engine light is illuminated. You need to hook a scanner up to it and see what codes are set, then go from there. Could be any number of things causing that condition. Good luck.
