Car is not overheating, but when it is run say, from 15 to 50 miles, it will not restart immediately--no starter action, no clicking whatsoever. I must wait sometimes up to an hour for the engine to cool before it starts perfectly and normally. I don't think I have a starter relay on this car. What could be the problem?

Unfortunately my Haynes Manual says that only 1996-2000 models are equipped with a crankshaft position censor. What else might you suspect?

Could also be the alternator brushes or voltage regulator, have both the starter and alternator tested, and make sure you dont have any bad connections going to and from those two. Does this truck have a distributor?

After further investigation I think I've found the problem. Postive cable to battery has undergone extreme heat, sheathing is swollen, red color almost completely gone and now all looks black, some signs of corrosion where the two wires forming the cable enter the sheathing. Apparently this can happen with age as resistance builds up in the wires. I have yet to install new cable but am hoping this will fix the problem.
