I dont think I was clear enough in my explanation earlier. The fuel pump is supposed to pump until proper pressure is built, no? So if you remove the fuel line, then the pressure cannot be built and pump should run and run, right? In oher words would the fuel pressure regulator still cut off pumps with fuel line disconnected? It still stops running.

Also, so long as I ground pin #6 on the EEC test connector, the pump will run all day.

We know the results of that test mean: I am getting power from EEC power relay to fuel pump relay coil, from the Fuse link at starter solenoid to fuel pump contacts common pin, from the ignition swith to EEC power relay coil, also that the fuel pump and EEC power relays are OK, Inertia swith is OK, selected fuel pump is ok, wiring and plugs are ok from fuel pump relay to pumps, ground for pumps is OK, and I am getting power from Ignition switch to EEC Power Relay Coil. Also, the test bypasses the EEC computer. That is why I replaced the EEC computer. So why does it work when grounding that pin only? (And could it be the Stater bad?)

When you bypass it it just turns on the system. The fuel should stop. And then turn back on when engine is cranked. If it keeps running. Like in an accident and the relays and the pump still runs but the line is split it will keep pumping gas. Which is a no no.

To find out if its good or not you need a fuel pressure check guage

Use a test light check for power before and after the blue fusible link 20ga at the starter relay if okay instead of pin 6 go to pin 20 and ground it and tell me what happened.

Will it run if you feed it some gas by hand? Could be a bad distrib, or ign mod. Also this old, check PCM power and grounds near battery.

Okay, I had problem getting my engine to start after sitting for six months. Messed with the wiring around the rec switch did some testing and was able to start it by using starting fluid. I had removed the front tank but then faced the problem about the fuel reservoir tank. I took a small copper tube and pushed the quick connect fittings one from rear tank the other to back of main fuel pump then got wired the pump from the battery. Everything started to run okay. But now there was all the hanging front tank straps wiring for the front pump and front fuel lines hanging all all over the place. Okay, where I'm at now is I have power to the inertia but after trying to reset it was unable to get power to the pump. Was thinking maybe I can splice a new wire from pump to the inertia switch.

Hello,

That would definitely work. Have you tried to see if were getting power at the connector on top of the fuel tank? That might be where the problem lies. Regardless if you run new wires to the inertial cutoff switch, which has 12 volts, from the fuel pump, it should be running.

Thanks,
Alex

I'm working from the main high pressure pump backwards. I have power in the brown wire at shut-off switch, the second wire is kind of red. The diagram says the wire goes to the selector switch on the dash for tanks. From there to pumps. If I don't use the front tank then I ought to be able to wire the main pump to the brown wire at shut-off switch. I also noticed fuel leaking at the quick connect fitting hmm something to do with the 30 below weather hate thinking of buying a new fuel reservoir at $250.00 plus new pump and front tank but the truck has a really good C-6 transmission, lol. Maybe be the first to drive from Anchorage Alaska to None the Gold Rush City, lol.

Hmm, leaking stopped once. The main outside rail pump started sucking fuel. Which I hot wired from battery positive to the pump guessing the hot wire from pump goes up to the tank selector switch. Put three gallons of gas in rear tank shows the added gas so I know there is electric to the sending unit but no electric to the main pump or inside tank pump. Hmm, I wonder if the fuel tank switch from my 1991 which has fuel tanks would work but it only uses pumps within the tanks.

Hello again,

A switch, is a switch, is a switch. It will just open and close the circuit. If you run a hot wire into the switch and a hot wire out of it to your fuel pump and a ground from your fuel pump, it should turn on when the switch is closed.

Thanks,
Alex,

It is located under the driver side dash up on the fire wall it is a black box about the size of the pack of cigarretts. There is a white button on the top all you have to do is push it down and it should be reset.

Hi, I was driving down the highway and all of the sudden my truck died and it would crank over but not start. I have two gas tanks and switched to either. Still would not start. I changed the fuel filter and now it will start and idle for a few minutes and die. Also, when I try to rev the engine it dies immediately. An auto parts store person told me he thought it was the ignition control module but I wanted to get your opinion.

The inertia switch is behind the right (passenger) side kick panel. As for the computer I have only replaced about 2 computer on a Ford in more then 20 yrs of doing this. If the switch is not causing this then I would like to check the fuel tank switching valve next. Here is a pic of what you are looking for and what you do is just push the red button this resets it and see if it will start. Let me know how that goes.

I found the inertia switch and the red button was pushed in. There was a slot that was to the side of the button and when I put a screwdriver in it the button popped up. I tried pushing it in again but this did not help. I even tried starting it with the inertia button up but I couldn't even get it to start in that position. So I guess we are off to the next item. Let me know how to check the fuel tank switching valve (location would help also). I don't know if this helps or not but the truck will start and run longer on the rear tank than the front tank. Neither will stay running however.

Ok remind me how old is the fuel filter? As for the switching valve it under the truck on the frame or crossover. You will need to check the red wire with the yellow stripe and make it has power to it and then you need to check the red wire to the front tank for power when on front tank and the brown wire with the white stipe on the rear tank when rear tank is selected. Now you still should check the fuel pump relay to make sure it is working as this will also affect both tanks. Let me know what you find.
