Shut off while driving, cranks will not start

I was driving along, and my car just shut off. The engine cranks but won't start. I checked the fuel pump fuse, and it seems fine. I switched relays like suggested with no change. I could not hear the fuel pump kick on. I removed the pump connector to test for power. I believe the blue/black wire is the power wire. With the key on there was no power. When I cranked the engine, I got power through that wire. Is it a bad fuel pump or should I check something else? I am on disability and cannot afford a mechanic or to replace a lot of random parts. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Can you let me know the engine size? I have different wiring schematics to review, and they differ.

As far as the wire you mentioned, if that is the power supply, you won't have constant power to it. When you first turn the key to the "on" position, you will have power for a second or two just to prime the system and then no power until it starts.

If you do have power, chances are the pump has failed. However, let me know about the engine size so I can confirm

Take care,

Joe

Joe, the engine is 2.2, 4 cylinders. If I have power at that wire and the pump is not kicking on. Should I replace the pump?

If you have power and ground, then the pump is likely the problem.

I attached the pic below showing the pump (pic 1). You were correct. The blue/black wire is power. There will be a white wire with a black tracer that is the ground. Check for continuity to ground. If you have good ground and power, replace the pump.

The remaining pictures below are the directions for the removal and replacement of the pump.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
