Need to know the fuel pressure on this truck, furthermore it start a few seconds then shuts off. Ignition is good sparks all around but still shuts off a few seconds. If the cam and crank not align will it be able to start then shuts off later or it wont start all

The fuel pressure reading I'm getting is about 33psi I thought it was suppose to be between 60-80 psi on this truck-Please let me know-Thank You

Hi,

Pressure at idle should be at 34, so you are right on target. Here are the directions for testing. The pics attached correlate with the pics. Just making sure you did it how the manual says to do it.

FUEL PRESSURE TEST
FUEL PRESSURE CHECK

NOTE:
a. When reconnecting fuel line, always use new clamps.
B. Make sure that clamp screw does not contact adjacent parts.
C. Use a torque driver to tighten clamps.
D. Use Pressure Gauge to check fuel pressure.

1. Release fuel pressure to zero.
2. Disconnect fuel hose between fuel filter and fuel tube (engine side).

Pic 1

3. Install pressure gauge between fuel filter and fuel tube.
4. Start engine and check for fuel leakage.
5. Read the indication of fuel pressure gauge.

At idling:
Approximately 235 kPa (2.4 kg/cm2, 34 psi)
A few seconds after ignition switch is turned OFF to ON:
Approximately 294 kPa (3.0 kg/cm2, 43 psi)

6. Stop engine and disconnect fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose from intake manifold.

Pic 2

7. Plug intake manifold with a rubber cap.
8. Connect variable vacuum source to fuel pressure regulator.

Vacuum/fuel Pressure Test

Pic 3

9. Start engine and read indication of fuel pressure gauge as vacuum is changed.

Fuel pressure should decrease as vacuum increases. If results are unsatisfactory, replace fuel pressure regulator.

Now, has anyone installed a security system in the vehicle? Are there any diagnostic trouble codes stored? As far as the timing, if it starts, even if out of time, I would think you would be able to keep it running.

Let me know. Also, if you have a live data scanner, let me know that as well. A stalling after being started can be many things. Even a plugged catalytic converter.

Put pressure gauge straight to the incoming line and got 34psi with KOEO then find out injectors are partially clogged, change it tried to starts a few times on its own but unable to maintain idle. Perhaps IACV and TPS needs further adjustment.I will let you know later when I'm done.

Now it fires then shuts off. Back and forth continuously. Don't know what's going on. Checked MAF it's okay. What do you think?

If it's not on compression stroke both cam and crank alignment set to specs will it be able start and shuts off. This is what it's doing. I think it has to do with fuel issue or the throttle body is bad.

If you have everything set to spec, it should continue running unless you lose spark or fuel. Or, if someone has installed an anti theft system.

By the way, how the heck are you? I miss working with you. As far as the prior anti theft, was that a Mitsubishi? What was the final fix?

That isn't listed in the manuals, but it should be clockwise. Can you crank it to confirm?

This went a goose chase it was the throttle body that was doing it. It was leaking gas on the vacuum line input going to the EGR valve. Thanks! Joe
