I just pulled engine to replace oil seal and I stretched fuel line that is permanently connected to fuel rail. Now the outer black rubber part of line is pulled back two inches and the inner clear high pressure vinyl hose is exposed (but maintained pressure). Can I clamp on two inches of fuel line over the clear vinyl, just to provide some protection to the high pressure clear vinyl. Or do I have to get new fuel rail with intact fuel injector hose to be safe?

That inner liner is Teflon based material. The outer shell does a few things for it. One is to provide support so it does not kink, next is to provide abrasion resistance as it is very easy to damage the liner. It also helps provide insulation to keep the line cooler. However, you state that it was stretching the line that caused the problem. If it stretched the inner liner you do not know just how long that will last. Personally I would replace it just to be sure it does not fail.

Thank You Steve, I agree and have purchased replacement rail with hoses from eBay. The fact that there is 2" of inner lining showing means a lot of stretching, I am amazed it stretched that much and was still holding pressure. So for safety I will replace it. I just did not think it would be easy to find a replacement rail/hose assembly.

You are welcome. I have seen them stretch quite a ways when they pulled engines in the yard, but I would not trust them to not fail, usually right at the wrong time.
