Engine hesitates when trying to accelerate

When driving press the gas it hesitates and then it will take off. Thought is was the catalytic converter, but its not.

Good afternoon.

It could be fuel related whether a fuel pump or carburetor accelerator pump. It could be ignition timing as well. You need a timing light to verify the timing. The EGR valve could be partially open causing a vacuum leak and causing the hesitation as well. These guides can help us fix it.
