Rattling noise around 30 MPH. Stops if I press on the gas or brake. Brand new tires balanced twice. Brand new CV axles DS and PS.

Hi,

Do you need to be moving for the sound to appear? If you have the vehicle in park and rev the engine, do you ever hear it? Is it loud enough for you to record and upload it for me to hear? Are there any other symptoms that seem to tie into the noise? Have the backing plates behind the brake rotors been checked to make sure nothing is bent and touching or if they are coming apart due to rust? I attached a pic below and highlighted where the backing plate is located.

Do me a favor. Take a rubber mallet and tap on the exhaust system in different places. I'm questioning if it is a heat shield or even a catalytic converter that has come loose internally.

Let me know.

It is a vibration. It vibrates the floor of the car but not the steering wheel. It doesn't affect the wheels either. Bumps start it going but not until it hits about 30 MPH.

Ryan,

If you feel it in the floor and not steering, chances are it is a rear wheel. Did you check the tires, rims, and you indicated it starts when hitting a bump, so did you check the shocks?

Most times when it is a front-end issue, you feel it in the steering wheel. Rear-wheel issues are mostly from the rear.

Bounce the rear of the vehicle and see how many bounces it takes for it to stop. More than three is an issue. Also, inspect the shocks for leaks. If you take a look at the attached pic, I circled where you may see oil from a blown shock.

Let me know.
