Heater

I have a 99 Ford Windstar 134,000 mi. Sort of inheirted it from in-laws. Everything seems to be running great except the heater. The fans blow just fine, but no hot air comes out. The temperature of the vehicle is running at about 1/2 on the gauge, and still no hot air. I have also noticed that when the defrost is blowing, there will be an oily substance on the windsheild. I have no idea what is wrong and am by no means mechanically inclined. I just need to know what is wrong, so a mechanic doesn't mess with me.

Thanks,

It sounds like your heater core is shot, that and your thermostate. The oily substance is prolly coolant that goes through your heater core.

Is there a sorta sweet smell with that oily substance?

Well reguardless of the smell. Odds are its still the core. Thermostate is cheap so even if the mechanic wanted to change that as well its not such a bad thing
