Heater problem
2001 Ford Windstar

The air conditioner has stopped worked in our 2001 Ford Winstar and freon was just put in a couple of months ago. There was a clapping noise in the dash before the air stopped working, and once the sound stopped, the air stopped working. Also, the heating in the front of the van doesn't work either, but the back vents produce heat just fine. Can you tell me what is going on, or how hard it will be to try to fix this?
Thanks.

Hi Ruth
The air and heat both come through the same vents. The only thing' that separates the cold and hot air is little doors that shuts one off and turns the other on.

These are controlled by little motors vac/ elec sometimes these motors fail and do not open or close the door.

Sometimes things fall inside of these doors blocking like papers combs change etc.

So to repair this first thing a mechanic has to do is find out why these doors are not working then he has to diagnose what is causing it not too work.

So a experienced mechanic can diagnose this prob fairly simple. The cost of parts could be from 60.00 to 300.00 . Hope this helps
