Transmission problem
1998 Ford Windstar V6 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 166000 miles

Hello
Engine start up is fine, but when I put the vehicle in drive or reverse it does not move. Check the linkage, and replaced the safety switch sensor, fuses all are okay. Could it be transmision control soleniod, and how hard is it to change. Help Help

The problem with the trans is definitly internal, however it is not likely to be a solenoid. If you can get the vehivle to move by placing it into M1 or M2, it may be a solenoid. I have seen this happen all too often on windstars though. The problem is most likely a broken shaft inside the trans. I have also seen the entire trans overheat and litteraly wedge together the guts of the trans. I have also seen torque converters break, since they are responsible for driving the trans pump. Any repair to the trans should be done on a lift though since the subframe has to come out. Good luck.
