I have just put a 63 thunderbird on the road 5 days ago and I have put about 120 mile on it. It sat for many years.I let the rings soak all winter with thrust oil and the 20 w oil. Put a new diafram in the carb it started and ran perfect until today after about 5 miles it started a little skip then straightend out almost like water in the gas.I put a little dry gas in it and some 89 octane in it and headed for home. By the time I got home it was running terrible. It stalled going around a curve skip the straighten out then it stalled.I put some water finder on a plastic pipe and checked the gas tank and no water, I pulled the fuelline going to the carb and checked the screen clean as new, turned over and fuel pump seem to be wprking fine put it back to gether and it started right up and idled fine started up the road and it began acting up again. The points look like new as does the cap and rotor. It was skipping and pinging like cars use to when they deasled when you shut them off. But this just started doing this without any changes done to it. Does it sound like the coil may be getting weak.I had my farm tractor do that yrs ago when you ran it a bite it would start acting up but its been so long now I can t remember if it acted like that or just stalled.I have been restoring tractor for many yrs and I can usually trouble shoot things pretty well but this has me a little baffled because it started to run so badso fast. Thats why I was thinking water but the gas that was pumped out had no trace of water. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Gary Alley verona Ny

It could be a few things. There could be dirt from the tank causing problems. Also, did you check dwell? IF the points slipped (from sitting) it will run bad. It could even be the condensor. I assume the carb was cleaned when you replaced the accelerator pump.
