Hi, I am writing a script and need to know what car problems arise from trying to drive on an empty tank of gas? What happens to the engine? Are their parts that would need replacing and if so which ones? How long would it take to fix something like that and how much might a mechanic charge for such a job? Thank you!

I know this was an old question but still, basically the car would stall and stop, if nothing else went wrong you would get more gas, fill the tank and wait for the fuel pump to move the gas through the empty fuel lines before it would start. It would not start immediately because all the pipes would be empty. Thats it really unless you did other things to it.
